WHY DO WE CALL IT SOMA-TOSOPHY?

The term Soma-tosophy is the compounding of two words: soma and philosophy.

The word "Soma" is typically used to describe the body, mind, and pysche as one integrated entity. In our definition of Soma-tosophy, we go one step further exploring how the body, mind, and pysche, in otherwords our physiology or soma is shaped by both our environment and its function.

When we talk about environment we mean both proximal and distal environment. Proximal being our interactions with the people around us, the physical space we exist in, and what we encounter day to day. Distal environment meaning the political landscape, societal structures, historical contexts, and global ecology that shape our world. Both proximal and distal environments are fundamentally intertwined and need to be observed as such in order to understand the dynamics of the world we live in.

When we talk about function, we talk about the "why" something exists and how it fulfills its purpose. Soma-tosophy looks at our physiology and how it both impacts and is impacted by its environment and function. And how its environment and function are impacted by our physiology.

Soma-tosophy as its name hints at is a philosophy based on the soma - our body and all of its systems.

Philosophy, in a nut shell, is the study of existence. As Aristotle once put it "all men by nature desire to know". Therefore many philosophers throughout time have argued that philosophy is for everyone. Anyone who can observe, think and ask questions-in other words process and synthesize data- can therefore be a philosopher.

Philosophy is about being curious, gathering information and amalgamating it into theories. These theories then need to be tested and proven over and over until they are disproved by new data, just like any other scientific theory.

The ideas, systems and theories we are putting forward with soma-tosophy have been developed by Erna Wenus over many years and have proven time and time again to be effective with her patients and her own life.

We therefore encourage you to test out these ideas for yourself and observe how your existence shifts.
